The towns around Glacier Natl Park

Flathead County is the ideal base camp for the outdoor adventurer who seeks to discover Montana. The opportunities are endless in this vast open mountainous region!
Whitefish is a winter lover's basecamp for outdoor fun! The only Montanans who sleep through the winter are the bears. The rest of us flock to the mountains with skis and boards to revel in feet and feet of powdery fun. Staying in Kalispell puts you equidistant from two great ski experiences. To the north 22 miles, there’s Whitefish Mountain Resort, a perennial national favorite and one of the 10 largest ski areas in the country.

The beef brisket is moist & flavorful, the baked beans are divine, the Mac n cheese is a gourmet version with a little crunchy topping — oh so good. The chili and cornbread are equally delicious! Place is busy, a local favorite, any wait for a table is worth it!

Moose's is a Local's Hangout Spot. If you are lloking for "old-School and nuthin' fancy vibe then this is the perfect place for you! This is one of a VERY few places that is open late in the Kalispell, MT area! However, you don't have to settle for it being the only thing open, because it is pretty good! They offer free Peanuts while you wait for your pizza. Great place for "Beer and Pizza...and Salad"! Don't expect anything but peanut shells on the floor, friendly locals, hot pizza, and cold beer!

Neighborhoods

Historic Downtown Kalispell - Steeped in history and filled with locally owned shops and boutiques, restaurants, art galleries and more, downtown Kalispell beautifully combines touches from the past with modern offerings in a charming setting. Throughout Kalispell’s downtown core, there are many places to shop, from art to furniture and clothing to jewelry, and everything in between. One of the anchors of downtown, Western Outdoor, is located underneath what used to be an opera house that dates back to 1896. Step inside the shop and you’ll be welcomed by more than 2,500 boots and 1,500 hats, as well as all the western-inspired attire you can get your hands on. Keep strolling and perusing the offerings at Wheaton’s Cycle (a bike shop that’s been around for more than 100 years), The Toggery, Sage & Cedar, The Montana Scene and Sassafras, to name a few. Take a walk through Kalispell, Montana’s downtown and you’ll quickly notice that history has stood the test of time and created a firm foundation for the type of destination it is today. History can be found in buildings that date back to the late 1890s and early 1900s (like the Conrad Mansion Museum, the Hockaday Museum of Art, Kalispell Grand Hotel and the Northwest Montana History Museum) and Kalispell’s love affair with beer that dates back to the first pint that was brewed in 1894 by Kalispell Malting and Brewing Company. And if you want to do a deep dive into the history of Kalispell, pick up a self-guided walking tour map at the Visitor Information Center at 15 Depot Park.

For an easy float or if you’re looking for a place to wander the banks, the Teakettle Fishing Access site in Columbia Falls is a superb place to start a day’s adventure. Use the well-maintained concrete boat ramp to launch your vessel for a popular half-day fishing outing from Teakettle to the Presentine Fishing Access. The easy float is surrounded by beautiful scenery. The access site offers tables and ample space for picnics or a quick afternoon getaway. The water is currently low creating an easily navigable beach of rounded river rock to stroll between the trees and crystal clear water of the Flathead River. Stop and learn a bit of local history by viewing a salvaged steel paddle wheel shaft from the 1892 steamer “Oakes,” a stern-wheeler steamboat that was used to retrieve coal for the railroad from the North Fork of the Flathead River near Coal Creek. Read about the “Tragedy of the North Fork” and the events that led to the capsized steamer. The site is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
