Wren Cottage is the perfect place for your rural retreat or romantic getaway. You will find wonderful opportunities within the 29,000 acres of the Royal Forest of Dean for walking and cycling. Within easy walking and cycling distance you can experience the extensive countryside along the river Wye. You will find numerous environments in which your passion for painting or photography can be fulfilled. There are all sorts of attraction and activities for you to enjoy throughout the local area. For your shopping and eating out requirements both Coleford and Monmouth are just three miles away. To the west you will be able to enjoy a day out in the Brecon Beacons that are within an hour’s drive. If you fancy a trip to a historic city these three that are again within an hour’s drive…Gloucester, Cheltenham and Bath.

Wren Cottage comprises of an open plan ground floor with two armchairs for you to relax in after a lovely day exploring. There is a television with free view and Wi-Fi with unlimited data for your enjoyment. The kitchen is fully equipped for you to produce all sorts of culinary delights! There is an oven with a grill, microwave, dishwasher, fridge with a freezer compartment and an induction hob together with a full complement of utensils.

Upstairs you have a large bedroom with a king-size bed. Within the room there is a bath and shower, vanity unit and separate toilet. You also benefit from a television and again unlimited Wi-Fi.

Outside is an enclosed patio and garden with patio furniture. Outdoor cooking facilities will also be on hand for your outdoor meals.

There is an outhouse with washing machine and dryer. Also, a shower with large tray for washing dogs and wellies if required. Your bicycles can be cleaned with the pressure washer in our yard. You will also have access to a secure large barn to where you can put your bicycles, motorcycles and classic vehicles overnight.

This property and Barn Owl Cottage next door can sleep eight in total if you book both properties together.

Wren Cottages makes an ideal base for exploring the Royal Forest of Dean, caving, abseiling, canoeing and high wire rope courses available nearby.

Wren Cottage is a great location for exploring the offerings of the Royal Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. You can visit the Dean Heritage Centre or ride the Dean Forest Steam Railway with your dogs. The ancient caves of Clearwell lie just 6 miles away and St. Braviels Castle, Puzzlewood, Go-Ape and many other attractions are all close by for you to enjoy.
A wonderful base for walkers and mountain bike enthusiasts with access to the numerous foot paths and cycle paths.
Discover the Wye Valley and explore on or off the beaten track. Find yourself on a walking, cycling or riding your horse along the network of trails and work up a healthy appetite which can be satisfied at local pubs which welcome dogs.
14 miles from the cottages is the historic market town of Ross-on-Wye is a great place to wander characterful streets dotted with shops and eateries before following a trail along the river. Monmouth and Coleford are three miles away with shops and restaurants to delight in.
Venture further afield into the Brecon Beacons for breath taking views and amazing walks.
Bristol, Gloucester, Bath and Cardiff are all within easy reach as is Cheltenham, Cirencester and the Cotswolds.

The Royal Forest of Dean

The Forest of Dean is located in the Wye Valley in Gloucestershire and close to the South Wales border and offers great self-catering holidays at any time of the year. You will able to enjoy stunning forest scenery and many and varied outdoor activities. There is also a wealth of heritage to enjoy with an array of fantastic castles, cathedrals and museums.

Wren Cottage is in a glorious rural environment and benefits from an enclosed patio and garden making it secure for dogs. The White Horse Pub in Staunton is less than a mile away.

The ancient mixed woodland of the Forest of Dean is managed by the Forestry Commission and has numerous trails for walking and cycling. The walks here include sections of the long distance Offa’s Dike Path and the Wye Valley Walk, in addition there are circular routes which take walkers through pretty villages and historic market towns. Cyclists can go on the safe family friendly cycle path that goes right through the heart of the forest and mountain bikers can enjoy a range of dedicated trails (cycle hire is available locally).Visit Symonds Yat Rock for fantastic views of the River Wye and explore the ancient hill fort. For the adventurous, have a go on the zip wire at the Go Ape Adventure centre, or take a leisurely kayak trip on the river. Visit the world's oldest dedicated Birds of Prey centre at Newent to get up close to some magnificent birds. Near Cinderford you will find the Cyril Hart Arboretum with its unique collection of two hundred majestic and unusual trees. South of Coleford are the Clearwell Caves at the Iron Mining Museum, which go back 4,500 years and were used by Neolithic miners digging for ochre pigments. For those who enjoy some time pottering around town, Monmouth, where the Monnow, Wye and Trothy rivers meet. Monmouth is a Georgian market town with some stunning architecture as well as unique shops, cafes and restaurants. The castle and the thirteenth-century Monnow Bridge give an idea of the town's fascinating history. Hereford boasts a cathedral, cider museum, the Hereford Museum and Art Gallery d the Old House, a museum about life in the Jacobean era.
