WELCOME TO SARAPUU FARMSTEAD!

The story of our mother
Our mother is a girl from the big city, who until the age of 61, dreamed of her own country house.
Now, this dream has been realized through joys, hardships, and pains, and she really enjoys her time in the cozy summer home. The greatest passion of our mother is interior design, which one might also suspect, when looking around in the rooms😉 She has renovated and furnished her summer home with genuine love and passion.

Our mother has 3 children, 6 grandchildren, a cat and a dog.

The story of the farmstead
Sarapuu farmstead was built in 1929 and its original inhabitants were a family of fishermen.
Two brothers lived there with their families during the Soviet Era. Our mother started the house restoration 10 years ago.
It was originally meant for spending retirement with her beloved husband but, unfortunately, fate had a different plan... Now our mother continues her lifework alone, with the help of her children.
Every valued guest of ours contributes to the renovation of the house, all the income from our visitors is put towards improving the house or, to put it otherwise, fulfilling our mother's dream.

Thank you for being our guest and have a great vacation!

Matsalu National Park
Matsalu National Park covers the shallow Matsalu Bay, which consists of about 50 islands and islets, and the surrounding Väinameri Sea (the Sea of Straits). It is a real paradise for bird-lovers and one of Europe's most important staging areas for waterfowl migration routes between the Arctic and Western Europe.

Saastna Village
Saastna village is located in Lihula Parish, Läänemaa. Around 35 people live in the village.
The first written mentions of Saastna village date back to the year 1320. (Sastrennenne). The (now destroyed) Saint Olav’s chapel was a place of pilgrimage for Estonian-Swedes and Gotlanders. There are also ruins of an old 17th-century manor in Saastna village.

Near Saastna village, there is a rocky hill called Porimägi (Mud mountain). People say that Ingvar, king of Svealand who died during a raid to Läänemaa in the 7th century, is buried there. But there are several other hills elsewhere that are known as Ingvar’s graves.

In the garden of the old manor in Saastna village is the Saastna nõiamänd (Witch’s pine). The twisted and poorly grown pine stands out from other trees as the only conifer among broad-leaved trees. The pine is only 15 meters tall but is more than a 100, or more years old. The pine has been mentioned as a healing tree in the notes of the folklore archives of the Literary Museum. In 1939, the locals called the tree a dog-hanging pine. The strange name derived from the belief that the tree helped to cure carbuncles and other skin diseases.
Saastna beach is particularly rocky. Biggest of those rocks is a boulder called Näärikivi (circumference 14.5 meters, height 3 meters).

Thank you for being our guest and have a great vacation!
